I’ve always been disturbed by how we romanticize war, starting with children playing cowboys and Indians with toy guns. I was inspired to paint this poster by graffiti I saw of a devil child on a hobby horse. I wanted to capture the innocence of childhood, our cultural acceptance of war and death, and murder. I added a twist, in that the child, like any child in a conflict, is “collateral damage.”
